Matrica

"Matrica" is a function of distance defined upon the traditional Euclidic space where familiar everyday physical events take place: 3D phenomena, continuity, distance and linearity. "Matrica," as the title of the exhibition, displays the works of seven women artists that deal with the notion of space as related to the works of Moshe Kupferman.

The exhibition attempts to present a shared visual concept which explores the notion of space in its actual as well as its illusionary sense, going beyond the surface as if penetrating the pictorial fabric, a sort of virtual or cybernetic space conceived more as a feeling of space rather than an actual one.

Each work, whether painting, drawing or video, uniquely applies the typica "Kupferman language": layering, adding and abstracting, a preference for monochrome coloring and simplified forms. Each and every work displays a formalistic, geometric and constructivist space, albeit one not defined as a linear architectural structure. On the contrary, space is internally constructed, in depth related to the surface as if a mythical structure entangled in and beyond the organic fabric. Space can be conceived here as a container constructed both physically and metaphorically under the surface supporting and defining it.
