My Camp
Maor Tzabar, Ironing Lady
Curator : Liav Mizrahi
A result of a year and a half working process, “MY CAMP” exhibition was born out of discussions over one word: ‘camp’. This word enfolds within itself so many diverse aspects and different worlds, that at first glance it may seem like there is no connection between them. The project, which started as an initiative of Dollinger art Project, expanded in growing circles. Eventually, through a unique collaboration, it became a cross spaces group exhibition held at three leading galleries simultaneously: Minshar Art Academy Gallery, Inga Gallery and Dollinger Gallery. The exhibition is focused on the various expressions of the 'camp' concept and manifestations. The artworks look at the subject of pertinence and belonging to a specific gender, society, or to a political, social and national faction. The exhibition will also attempt to examine, among other things, the component of an individual's personality in a faction*, the role of the leader and the power of the collective. The exhibition's name deliberately refers to Adolf Hitler's book “Mein Kampf”, which in effect created a totalitarian political faction aimed at obliterating other factions. In Addition to an innovtive catalogue, which includes amongst the rest an interview with Dr. Annie Sprinkel and comics by Zeev Engelmayer, the exhibition is accompanied by a special camp movies screening night, a party in the spirit of camp and a dedicated website: www.mycampexhibition.com The exhibition comprises of the works of Israeli artists as well as artists from other countries.
*in Hebrew the same word is used for 'camp' and 'faction'
