Amit Berlowitz
Amit Berlowitz, Woods, 2011, Color photograph, 55 x 83 cm
Born 1970 in Connecticut, Amit Berlowitz lives and works in Tel Aviv. She is a 2005 graduate of the M.F.A. program at Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris and BFA Films and Arts at Tel-Aviv University.
Berlowitz’s work, which ranges from photography to video art and super 8 films, deals with the magic embodied in the familiar and with the beauty concealed in the seemingly uneventful moments of everyday life. The scenes she photographs tell a personal story involving a quest or some form of escape. Most of them take place in a forest or open field, in non-urban landscapes. The figures portrayed in them are realistic, yet imbued with a poetic dimension. The time of day is ambiguous and the scenes capture the intermediate moments between day and night.
Berlowitz’s work has been displayed in various exhibitions including "Metonomie(s)" at Galerie Mor Charpentier, Paris; “A line made by walking,” 2011, Haifa Museum; “Video art,” 2011 Galerie Mor Charpentier, Paris; “In Between,” 2010, Ashdod Art Museum; “In between everything that is,” 2009, Braverman Gallery, Tel Aviv; “Traces of Time,” 2009, Herzliya Museum; “Nuit Blanche,” Galerie AAA, Paris; “Moi, Elles...,” 2006, Raw Art Gallery, Tel Aviv; “Rouge,” 2003, Rosenfeld Gallery, Tel-Aviv.
